I decided rather than have a wooden plinth for the finished chimp to sit on, to weld a metal one. This was to emphasise the feeling of a cold sterile environment. It was also a good contrast to the dirty colour of the chimp. I made the box out of sheet steel at 25cm cubed. This was to allow the hand to be able to hang down bellow the box, without touching the ground.
Once the box was welded together I used a grinder to make it as shiny as possible. I had to do this in sages, starting with a hard disk and gradually moving down to a finer flexible sandpaper disk. I then finished it by using wet and dry but instead of using water used WD-40. This was to prevent any further rusting.
